Tao Hui at Goethe-Institut China
June 11–July 14, 2019
The Tangible Ones by Tao Hui, 2018, is featured in ASSEMBLAGE—A Project on Migration in Relation to China curated by Xia Yanguo and organized by Goethe-Institut and de Art Center, Beijing.
The migration phenomenon is reflected in two aspects in China: urban and rural population movement; convection between foreign population and Chinese population. In Assemblage, Xia Yanguo invites five artists, Hao Jingban, Tao Hui, Ming Wong, Wang Chong and Enoch Cheng to think about these two aspects separately. Yet their works are related to the "new collective" phenomenon after immigration, that is, how immigrants are affected at various levels in their local life, how they also play the role of "influencers", and how their identity with neighbors has quietly changed. Their structural status and the relationship between new identity cognition and the local environment are important topics in this exhibition. As part of the regional project “Migration Narratives in East and Southeast Asia” of the Goethe-Institut, the exhibition will be first presented in de Art Center and the Goethe-Institut China in June 2019. Selected works of the exhibition will be then shown in the group exhibition “Migration Narratives” at the Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival in June 2019 and in Gwangju Asia Culture Center in November 2019. |
